Malta and Turkey have, on the 14 July 2011, signed an agreement in Istanbul to prevent double taxation between the two countries. The agreement was signed by Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek for Turkey and Malta’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Tonio Borg.
The agreement, which will circumvent hinderances stemming from double taxation, will act as a catalyst, further incentivising the flow of investments between the two countries. The signing of the agreement is a welcome step and a milestone towards final ratification, thereby increasing the number of double tax treaties entered into by Malta in the past months, including the crucial double tax treaty entered into between Malta and the United States of America, the Republic of Ireland and Greece.
